We talked a bit about Sin this past Sunday.
One of the things we said was:
“Sin will happen if you are in the place you were not supposed to be.
That’s a problem, and leads to more problems.
How does adultery start?
How does stealing start?
How does alcoholism start?
You were in a place you were not supposed to be and then you got into trouble.”
That’s a hard, but necessary, topic. Sometimes we think we’ve moved past hearing things like this. We don’t want to hear it again. We’re not children. But we haven’t moved past it. We need to hear the same things 1 million times. And we need to hear the most obvious things. This morning I saw Simeon poking around in the pantry.
“What are you looking for?”
“Tea.”
“Ok. But, is that the mug your’e putting it in?” “Yes.”
“Is that water cold?” “Yes.”
“You know you need hot water for tea, right?” “You do?”
“Yep.”
Katie’s family is Canadian. They love tea up there. You can’t even imagine how much tea they drink. There’s always someone about to brew some tea. Tea everywhere and all the time! And do you know how many times Sim has seen any of us make tea with cold water? Never. Not once.
But apparently this was new to him. So, I had to tell him what seemed to be the most obvious thing in the world.
So it is with adults. But this is good! It shouldn’t make you frustrated or annoyed! It should encourage you! If a child has to hear something again and again, what is that kid still doing? Growing! Learning! If an adult has to hear the same thing again from God, what is there still time for? Growth! There’s still time to learn!
We are all still young. We still have time. There’s still more growing and learning and living for you!
Love you Saint Paul’s.
See you soon.
Sincerely,
Tom Smith
